A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per bend Or and Brick Red in nombril point a railroad track fesswise, thereon issuing from sinister a steam locomotive in full speed, in dexter a semaphore, arm raised, all countercharged. Attached below the shield is a Gold scroll inscribed "THROUGH AT ANY COST" in Brick Red letters.
Brick red and yellow are the colors of the Transportation Corps. The railroad engine is representative of the character of the organization, while the semaphore with the "all clear" signal symbolizes the ability of the Battalion to get troops and supplies through. The motto is expressive of the spirit of the personnel in the performance of its duties.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 714th Railway Operating Battalion (Transportation Corps) on 27 February 1943. It was redesignated for the 714th Transportation Railway Operating Battalion on 8 March 1951. The insignia was redesignated for the 714th Transportation Battalion on 9 January 1956.
